What Google Adsense is anyway?
Secondly I must tell you what this program is all about and ill try to make it easy enough for my grandmother to understand it also.
Lets say that you run a website with no, little or a lots of traffic doesn’t matter just have some visitors at least. Now this site has a purpose which is one of the following (you can take in mind this list if you don’t have a site already and planning to start one):
- Web sales (Retailing or Manufacturing)
- Offline sales
- Leads
- Market awareness
- Informational

- Influencing Public Opinion
- Helping People

Every category online today is or its included in one of the above (the above subjects are covered in another topic). And lets say that we run an informational site that gives infos about the African potato.
Now imagine that this website is a store a supermarket or a mall and lots of people are coming in to find out about this subject because they want to make a university paper, or they saw it on tv, or the just like it etc. When they read your infos they are going to leave and do something else. We the managers of the mall we are not earning anything expect of the pleasure that we put a brick in the global house of education, what if could put also some bucks in our pockets? Not bad for an idea and we are far more happier now. How can we do that we thing? And suddenly we understand that we manage to bring people in a place for a specific purpose the African potatoes, so if we put advertises at the door at the exist of this store, 2-5 lets say, for this subject, it is very possible that some of our visitors will stay more and eventually follow the advertisement and buy which ever product it advertise for the African potatoes, lets say a big blue basket to put them in. Bingo! We have got our self’s a way. But, where do we find this advertisers? Should we search all of the internet about this product, and what if we make another webpage with another topic the same again? So that’s where Google Adsense come in and untie our hands by making a big list with advertisers so we don’t have to search all the time and waste our precious time.

Left is your webpage and you want to put in it advertisements (the big grey box below exotic pets) to earn money (so you are the publisher). Right are all the people that they want to be advertised (so they are the advertisers). From all of them only a couple has similar topics with your page, so Adsense it’s the line that choose, transfers and lastly appears the advertisements (ads alternatively) in your page. You can say that Adsense its something like a middle man in trade.
That’s the idea behind this program and that’s exactly how it works. Take some time to thing and reread the above until you have understood exactly what’s going on.

Can I trust this program?
After a search I make in OneStat and iProspect found out that:
- Google is the leader in traffic loyalty (that means that who ever goes for a search in google it comes back again for another) with 66%

The Google itself will not disclose the information about this as it wants to keep everything in low profile and never let its competitors to learn anything about it. This has its roots in a management thought that says that when your rival doesn’t know about your forces its forced to assume and he may assume something bigger. Something bigger it means more power, and more power it ads in Adsense look of a ten tons gorilla in the advertising game. We will never know we will have also to assume. Nevertheless Google Adsense domination in this field is absolute and that’s for sure, it’s the first search engine in the web and that tells us a lot.
After a search in the web I didn’t manage to find the exact number but I thing it is far over a couple of millions.

Can I show only appropriate ads?
Google ensures that ads are family friendly and can be viewed by all the members of the family. So you don’t have to care what ads are going to be shown in your “kids playground”, religious website etc. It disapproves adult, nude, porn, racist, tobacco sites, concerning weapons, illegal in general (like torrents) websites and by any means sites with not family friendly content. Also you can install filters and block competitors ads from appearing to your site. We summarize the above in the below image:

As for what kind of content is going to put in your site, you have to know that it is dynamically updated so it isn’t static, that means that after you put the Adsense script in your site it updates itself and appears only the most relevant and most profitable ads in its database, you don’t have to do anything else. The way that it choose the ads is covered below.

How Adsense choose the ads?
The ads are chosen and depends from the below facts:
- From the density of the words in your text. That means that if you have 100 words in your text and the 7% is the word “dog” and all the other words are in less % , the most possible ads are about dog and so one.
- From the Title of your page. I mean the one you have put in your metatags. If you don’t know how to do this there is a topic about it but Ill put in the script:

<title>Your page title goes here <title>

The above is nothing more than a metatag that you should put in you head tag when you create the page. After that you will see the title at the upper left corner of your page.
- From the name of the page. Lets say that you make a page about European Cats then you should name the page european_cats.html or european_cats.htm or european_cats.php etc. Don’t name it europeancats.html because the search engine spider that will come to spider your page is not going to understand what this means. You do understand it because you have got logic search engine spiders don’t have.
- From the directory that you have put the page. The Example same as above, so you should put it in a directory animals/european_cats.htm perfect! Now you are 100% sure that ads about cats are going to be shown and others of course but in the animals field.
- A small portion of what ad is going to be shown takes the position of the ad in your page. More and more people say that you should put the ad near and up of the target words, at our example cats, animals etc.
That’s the juiciest ways to appear the ads that you like in your page.

Does the ads change when I change my content?
Of course, as I described the script isn’t static but dynamic and change according to your text and all of the above.

How much money will I earn with this program?
That depends from a lot of things from how your ad looks like to what traffic you have got. At the first months you are only going to earn only a few hundreds of dollars (that’s what happens most often). But after you know what you are doing and how to do it its going to be a piece of cake to earn 100$ per day! I also know persons that earn lots of thousands per month and make a living out of this. Friends of mine are making 1500$ per month but after couple of months working hard in this. Ether way you are going to make lots of bucks, it really depends in how much time you are going to give to this program.

How do I earn this money?
You have got three ways in this program to earn moneys.
a)Adsense for content: This option is exactly what we have described above. You get a piece of code after you have customized it to fit the needs and the background of your site, and embedded it in a place that you choose in you page. After that, and immediately, ads are going to be shown in your page and when ever a person clicks on them you get a commission, so easy!
b)Adsense for search: This option gives you the possibility to put a search box in your page. When someone makes a search along with your sites results Adsense put some ads similar to this search. When someone clicks on them you get also a commission. You don’t have to do anything else.
c)Referrals: Here you can choose from a number of Adsense “friends” and embed their image or text logo in your site. When someone clicks them it goes to the “friends” site where he can make a free sign up, or use for free a product like Firefox. Then you get a commission. Its more difficult from the other two methods but it pays more good that the other two.

How do I customize Adsense for my site?
When you sign up for an Adsense account, reviewed and accepted by Google you will be given the details to log in to your account. After this you have to go in the “Adsense set up” topic. There you can choose one of three methods described above and you can choose one of them
a) Adsense for content: After you click this option you get two others:

a1) Ad unit: Ad units contain either text ads, image ads, or both. The ads are targeted to the content of your page using contextual and site targeting. Take a look at the photo below it looks like this:

By choosing this you get into the menu where you can customize your add to fit your needs
- You choose ad format. That means the dimensions of the ad skyscraper, box etc. For the full list of the themes you can go here
- You choose colors of the ad titles, description, background etc.
- You choose alternatives ads and colors in case Adsense haven’t got any ad to appear for your page.
- You can choose a channel for an add, so you can track the clicks for this specific. If you cant measure it you cant manage it! So if an add doesn’t get many clicks you can easily find out and make some changes to see what happens.
- You get the script you put it in your site. Done!

a2) Text unit: Each link unit displays a list of topics that are relevant to your page. When users click a topic, they’re brought to a page of related ads. Take a look at the photo below it looks like this:

b)Adsense for search: The options are the same as above plus you get to put domains where you want the search to take place. If you have more that one sites that’s a very good option.

c)Referrals: That’s far more easier. You just choose the ad, get the script and put it in your site. Are compact not changeable.

What about alternatives ads and what can I put instead of Public Services Ads?
If you have elected to receive contextually-targeted ads, you can make sure that your advertising space is always being used effectively, either by targeted Google ads, or by your own choice of content by specifying an image or ad server of your choice. However, you may not specify Google ads as your alternate ads.

How do I track my earnings?
When you log in to your account at the same time you get to see the statistics of this very day. After that it has more complicated reports to see the success or not of your ads. You can see the yesterday, last 7 days, last months, since last payment and all the time earnings and stats. Adsense keeps records to analyze your performance and find out the “bad guys”. Its really very simple and you can find out all about it in a matter of minutes. It’s really user friendly.

What I must not do when I start running this program?
Somewhere I read that Adsense is a big fat chicken. You must not kill it in order to eat well once. You must take care of it and from its eggs you are going to earn a lot more, eat more nicely.

So in order for your chicken to be well you MUST NOT do one of the followings!

- So don’t automate something that clicks the ad.
- Don’t edit or change the Adsense script in any way possible.
- Don’t frame minimize, remove or otherwise inhibit the full and complete display of any Web page accessed by an end user after clicking on any part of an Ad, any Search Results Page, or any Referral Page.
- Redirect an end user away from any Advertiser Page, Search Results Page, or Referral Page; provide a version of the Advertiser Page, Search Results Page, or Referral Page that is different from the page an end user would access by going directly to the Advertiser Page, Search Results Page, or Referral Page.
- Display any Ad(s), Link(s), or Referral Button(s) on any error page, on any registration or “thank you” page.
- Don’t place ads on any chat page, in any email, or on any Web page or any Web site that contains any pornographic, hate-related, violent, drugs, weapon, tobacco, replicas, alcohol or any other illegal content.
- Don’t implement ads in any kind of software.
- Be aware of how your site is promoted. To make it more simple don’t implement ads in webpages that appear in popups popunder etc. And don’t subscribe in sites that sell this kind of traffic because Google knows about them and you will be terminated. As Adsense teams says: Pages showing Google ads may never be loaded in an unrequested pop-up. This means publishers need to be very careful when purchasing traffic or setting up ad campaigns with third parties. Before contracting with any ad network, you should ensure that they will never display your site in pop-ups or as a result of the actions of any software application. - Respect Google trademarks. That means not to change in anyway Google trademarks etc.
- Don’t encourage others to clicks on this ads in any way, that means with text or by images.
- Don’t generate misleading, that means for example not to put an ad beside o beautiful half naked girl such like it seems that the ad link is for her (is misleading and it is forbidden).
- Don’t draw big attentions to the ads in anyway, that means user must choose freely to click and not after big flashing arrows pointing to the ad.
- Don’t post any Adsense stats anyware.
- Every page that has ads in it in your site must be connected with at least one more in this site.
- Don’t do something that if you were an advertiser you didn’t want your publishers to do in general.
- Provide a positive user experience and good environment for advertisers. So you must take care of the appear of your site and all the items that are in it.
- Be responsive. Publishers are asked to be responsive to emails sent by the AdSense team. Be sure to keep your email address up-to-date, in case we ever need to contact you about your account. To update your email address. To change your email just contact Adsense team.
- Adsense accounts are not transferable so don’t lent it to anyone or don’t let anyone use it except of you.
- Don’t place ads on any non-content-based pages.
- Don’t place ads on any domain parking websites, or in any email.
- Don’t place ads on pages published specifically for the purpose of showing ads, whether or not the page content is relevant.
- Your site must not require or prompt an end user to download a dialer in order to view content of the site.
- Clicks on Google ads must not result in a new browser window being launched.
- Don’t build browser toolbars with ads in them.
- Your site must not contain broken links and must be launched, functioning, and easily navigable.
- You must keep your links in any page fewer than 150, this is not so strict is just a guide.
- Avoid hidden text or hidden links.
- Publishers may not label the ads with text other than “sponsored links” or “advertisements.” This includes any text directly above our ads that could be confused with, or attempt to be associated with Google ads.

Take in mind that I don’t over react, Adsense has stuff 24hours a day checking publishers sites and stats. It is possible not to find that you did something of the above but the will do eventually and you will be banned for life.
So I repeat again do not do anything of the following, earnings will flow in by the time and they will flow as long as you leave and as long Google exist.

What I must do when I start running this program?

- Read e-books that are flowing around in the internet and what ever you find about the subject.
- Start reading about management.
- Join some forums and read success and unsuccessful stories.
- Ask how to maximize your profits and chat with people that they know what they are doing.
- Put original content in your sites and not used.
- Embed the ads in your site like the are not advertisements but link to other pages in your site.

Can I use Google Adsense along with other similar programs?
You cannot place ads on web pages that also contain what could be considered competing ads or services. If you have elected to receive contextually-targeted Google ads, this would include all other contextually-targeted ads or links on the same page as Google ads. This would also include ads throughout the site that mimic Google ads or otherwise appear to be associated with Google on your site. Although you may sell ads directly on your site, it is your responsibility to ensure these ads do not mimic Google ads.
